First place: Michael Wolf of Pompano, Fla., captured this Double-crested Cormorant along the Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park. He used a Canon EOS 40D and 17-35mm f/2.8 lens to create a unique perspective.
Second place: These American Avocets were going through their courtship displays, and Larry Peterson of Centerville, Utah, caught this last ritual before the birds mated. He used a Canon EOS 30D, 500mm f/4.0 lens and 1.4x extender.
Third place: Joe Senzatimore of East Meadow, N.Y., watched this Snowy Egret at Fort Myers, Fla. He said any evening at Blind Pass usually offers good photo opportunities as the birds wait for handouts from the fishermen. Senzatimore used a Nikon D300 and 600mm f/4.0 lens.
