Feeding Fancy Mice
Feed your fancy mice a standard rodent lab block along with small amounts of vegetables, fruit and assorted grains. The lab block is important as the main part of the diet. It is hard and helps the mouse's continually growing teeth stay in shape. It is also a well-balanced food with the nutrients and vitamins needed to keep your fancy mice healthy.
Always feed your mice organically grown fruits and vegetables you have washed well. Even a little pesticide is too much for a little mouse. It is important that you not feed too much of any one food. Fancy mice are small, and if they don't eat all the food you give them within two days they will contaminate their food with urine and droppings. They will no longer try to eat that food, and it will become a rich medium for disease-causing organisms.
Fresh water must be present at all times. Fancy mice dehydrate easily and quickly, resulting in death. There are many different kinds of water bottles available in the market; the kind with two balls in the spout seems to work best. Do not use water dishes, as they tend to tip over or become contaminated with shavings and excrement. Change the water twice a week, and clean the bottle once a week. Be sure to rinse well, as soap can be poisonous to mice.
