Hermit Crab
Is a Hermit Crab the Pet for You?
Land hermit crabs have become popular as pets because of their nature. Their natural activities--such as climbing, burrowing in the sand, jumping and falling from perches, and eating and drinking--make them enjoyable to observe for people of all ages.
Although hermit crabs can provide enjoyment to anyone, they are especially suited to children as initial pets because the maintenance is relatively low. This aspect also makes them suitable for elderly and physically challenged people who might find higher maintenance pets too demanding.
People living in small apartments can appreciate the limited space required to house hermit crabs. Hermit crabs don't need to be walked and don't require constant feeding or trips to the vet, making them suitable to people with limited time to spend attending to their pets' care. Others might be attracted to crabs because they are quiet, disease-free and nonaggressive. Another strong point in their favor is that they are clean and odorless.
