Feeding Your Hamster
Food and water.[ital] Give your hamster a water bottle, rather than a water dish, as hamsters often kick their bedding into a dish. You can use a small dish for food; however, very often it will be empty. The hamster will whisk away in its cheek pouches most food placed in the container and store it elsewhere.
Hamsters require a varied diet, but you don't have to go through too much trouble to keep them nutritionally satisfied. Commercial seed mixes include alfalfa pellets, sunflower seeds, white millet, corn and cereal. They can eat many types of fruits (apples, grapes, raisins), vegetables (carrots, celery, cabbage), dry grains and seeds and even hard substances such as dog biscuits and dried bread. Wash all produce thoroughly before offering it to your hamster, and promptly remove any excess the hamster does not eat to prevent spoilage.
