Cavy Cuisine

Cavies need to graze constantly. Offer your pet cavy--not rabbit--pellets in a crock or self-feeder at all times. Cavies are the only mammal besides humans that cannot synthesize their own vitamin C. Therefore, daily vitamin C is essential to their health. Check labels to be sure the pellets contain vitamin C, and buy only fresh pellets, preferably in light-proof packaging. Pellets should never be more than 60 days old.

Fresh, cool water should be available to the cavy at all times. Water bottles are best. Crocks can be used, but the cavy will foul them with bedding and feces, which makes them a messy option.
