  • Adobe Photoshop (MACINTOSH & WINDOWS)

  • When creating an ad in Photoshop, begin with creating the ad canvas the exact ad size you intend to submit. Set resolution at a minimum of 266dpi.

  • If ad is a page bleed, the live image area must fall within the trim boundaries for your particular ad size (see rate card).

  • Photoshop files containing multiple layers will need to be flattened into one layer before the file can be saved as a TIFF or EPS. To flatten the image select the Layer pull-down menu and choose the "Flatten Image" option. The image has been flattened when only the "Background" layer is visible in the Layers palette.

  • Color space must be CMYK (RGB is not acceptable). Choose the Image pull-down menu then the "Mode" sub-menu.

  • To save ad choose the "Save as" option under the File pull-down menu. Choose the TIFF option in the "Save as" dialog box (see Figure 4 below).

    Adobe Illustrator (MACINTOSH & WINDOWS)

  • When creating an ad in Illustrator, begin with setting the document the exact ad size you intend to submit.
  • If ad is a page bleed, the live image area must fall within the trim boundaries for your particular ad size (see rate card).
  • Images can be embedded directly into the Illustrator file (see Figure 5 below). Note: The file name of linked image must be highlighted in the "Links" palette.

  • Illustrator provides the option of converting fonts to outline eliminating the need to submit the fonts with your file. Select entire image. Use the Type pull-down menu and choose "Create Outlines". Fonts are now scalable, graphic objects.
  • Save file as a native Illustrator file (.AI) or an Illustrator EPS.
